August 25th at Hailey's in Denton TX w/ Church of Philadelphia and The Western Civilization
Sept. 15th at The Cavern in Dallas w/ Chemistry Set
Nov 18th live on the radio here in Austin on KVRX 97.1 FM at 10 pm.

So come on out and hear us! Alex Maples will be manning the drumset while the rest of the lineup is the "classic" Zest you've come to know and love.

We are putting the finishing touches on all the tracks even as we speak and the record should be ready for release by summer. Here's the latest review of Throw it at the Moon from Splendid:

It's hard to know exactly what to make of The ZEST OF YORE -- and that's probably how they like it. Wonky lyrics about the "Waka-Waka" (on the aptly named "Waka-Waka") come head to head with crafty guitars and angular songwriting (see the equally lyrically obtuse "Spiritually Challenged") to create an album that's simply too compelling to be written off as, uh, goofy.

"The Catapulting Zoo"'s harmonies provide one of Throw It At The Moon's few pure pop treats, but the Zest boys seem more interested in exploring the inner workings of their songs, deconstructing them (as they do on the acoustic "Ida") and reassembling the damaged pieces into Flashing Lights-style pop ditties like "Brandish Your Uniform".

THE ZEST OF YORE's "Admit That It's Christmas (You've Got To)" will kick-off the Cohesion holiday CD, 'Tis the Season. This compilation CD featuring Denton bands doing original holiday tunes will be available in the coming weeks.

In her review of 'Tis The Season, Denton Record-Chronicle writer Mariel Tam calles ZOY's song:
"a real chestnut with a classy pop chorus,

Some members of THE ZEST OF YORE will be performing Saturday at the Who Writes the Hits extravaganza. This innovative musical experiment, which pairs Denton songwriters and bands, gets started at 8 p.m. at Brickhaus.

At the Who Writes the Hits show, each band will play three songs written this week by one of Denton's finest songwriters. The bands will have about a day to learn the newly-birthed hits. The ZOY boys (or most of the ZOY boys) will perform songs by Justin "JC" Collins and Wally Campbell. Be there by 8:15 so you can vote for the best song of the night. The cost is $5.

THE ZEST OF YORE will be hitting the studio again later this week to do some more tracking for our as-yet-unnamed full-length debut. Earlier this month, we did 16 tracks over two days lacking only vocals and one or two guitar "solo" type things. There are at least five more ready to roll and we are projecting the new release will have more than twenty-five songs.

Thanks to everyone who e-mailed Paul Slavens at KERA about playing THE ZEST OF YORE. During this Sunday's show he enlightened his listeners by playing "Brandish Your Uniform," talked about the EP a bit and gave a shout out to Denton. Paul says "KERA was the first station to play my band way back in the day. Just tryin' to pass it on."

They'll be back in the studio later this month to continue working on what could be the most ambitious undertaking by a band in the history of music.

A song from the debut EP is being considered by the producers of The OC for use on the show. "The Kid Gloves Come Off" was added to the list of songs being considered in the show's Enter the Mix competition. We're not counting on the producers selecting "Kid Gloves," just hoping to win a few more fans.
